چکیده

We study the head-on collision of fluid particles well within the kinetic energy dominated regime (γ = 8 to 12) by numerically solving the Einstein-hydrodynamic equations. We find that the threshold for black hole formation is lower (by a factor of a few) than simple hoop conjecture estimates, and, moreover, near this threshold two distinct apparent horizons first form postcollision and then merge. We argue that this can be understood in terms of a gravitational focusing effect. The gravitational radiation reaches luminosities of 0.014 c/G, carrying 16±2% of the total energy.

Geometry of the doubly spinning Black Ring

We provide a detailed analysis of the doubly spinning black ring, investigating both its general properties and its shape. We also examine the geometry of the ergosurface, illustrating the process of self-merging and discussing the physics of ergoregions. ar X iv :0 90 2. 46 41 v1 [ gr -q c] 2 6 Fe b 20 09

We consider stationary, axially and equatorially symmetric systems consisting of a central rotating and charged degenerate black hole and surrounding physically realistic matter. We show that a + Q = M always holds, where a = J/M is the black hole’s intrinsic angular momentum per unit mass, Q its electric charge and M the well known black hole mass parameter introduced by Christodoulou and Ruff...

We have known for more than thirty years that black holes behave as thermodynamic systems, radiating as black bodies with characteristic temperatures and entropies. This behavior is not only interesting in its own right; it could also, through a statistical mechanical description, cast light on some of the deep problems of quantizing gravity. In these lectures, I review what we currently know a...

The aim of this paper is to evaluate the energy distribution of some 2 + 1 black hole solutions applying the Landau-Lifshitz and Weinberg definitions. The metrics under consideration describe the charged black hole, the solution coupling to a static scalar field and the static and circularly symmetric exact solution of the Einstein-massless scalar equation. Further, we compare the expressions f...
